Text Box: The Guest Author for the 17th Annual Beloit Elementary School Authors’ Party, on Thursday, April 16, 2009, has selected the theme for this year’s Written & Illustrated Project. It is a great idea and one that will prove to be a lot of fun as students work to complete their books. The theme is:
Four legs, two legs, no legs, or fins—
When we are friends, everyone wins!

3rd Grade Students:
Eighteen 3rd graders began working on their stories in late September and have already submitted their final copies. They are now working on other parts of the project such as preparing backing pages and choosing publishing company names.

1st and 2nd Grade Students:
Parents of 1st and 2nd graders received information about Written & Illustrated at Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Students planning to participate need to return the signed permission form to their classroom teachers by November 3rd.
The deadline for stories is the week of November 17th on the day of the week when each class meets.
Students should bring completed stories in a folder with pockets that will be used only for Written & Illustrated.

4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Students:
Students in grades 4th, 5th, and 6th will also have their first class the week of November 17th.
Story deadline for 4th and 5th graders is the week of December 15th.
Story deadline for 6th graders is the week of January 5th.

Parents or students who have questions about Written & Illustrated should direct them to Mrs. Hosie.

About the National Geographic Bee…

Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades preparing for the National Geographic Bee have been traveling around the world learning fascinating facts while locating countries and/or places of interest on every continent. Many of these students are also accessing the National Geographic Site and answering new questions posted every day. The site address is www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/.
Individual class bees will be scheduled in December. The School Bee will be held in early January. Geography classes will continue only through the end of the week of November 10th, but participating students are encouraged to continue studying and researching geography on their own.
