Text Box: COLD & FLU SEASON INFORMATION

With the cold and flu season upon us, I thought it would be a good time to review some simple measures to help avoid these and other illnesses.

Encourage your children to wash their hands several times each day, using plenty of hot water and soap and washing for at least 20 seconds.
Encourage proper diet, including 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
Encourage daily physical activity.
Keep children home from school when sick. Children should be fever-free for 24 hours and had no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
Encourage sufficient sleep. How much sleep is needed? Children 18 months to 3 years of age should have 11-13 hours of sleep and children 4 to 12 years should have 10 hours of sleep per night.

These rules have been taught for years, but they still hold true and there’s good data to back them up. If you have any questions about these topics, please contact Ardella at 738-3581.
