Homework Folder

Math Homework: Your child will have a Math sheet (side B) to complete almost each night.  It is similar to side A which we complete together in class.  As the year progresses, they will have Math Facts and Math Wrap-Ups to help them learn and master First Grade Math Facts.  Math homework will be kept in their "MATH INSERT POCKET FOLDERS" and checked math will be in the front pocket of their Homework Folders. 

Reading Homework:  Your child will have a GUIDED READING BOOK that they will need to re-read to you nightly.  It will be kept in their "GUIDED READING INSERT POCKET FOLDER" in their Homework Folder.   It is important that it is read and returned daily in order for your child to stay in his/her reading group and to move onto another book.  Sometimes they will re-read the same book or have a writing activity with it.  Your child may also read his/her AR books, library books, or books from home.  Poems may also be sent home to be re-read.  Please record the title of the book on the READING LOG SHEET in their "GUIDED READING INSERT POCKET FOLDER" in their Homework Folders.  I will send home SIGHT WORDS on a ring that correspond to the stories in our Basal Reader Anthologies.  It is important that they read the words to you as quickly as they can and if possible, the sentence using the sight word on the back of the card.  The SIGHT WORD rings will need to be returned daily in their Homework Folder. 

Spelling Homework: A weekly spelling list will be sent home in their "SPELLING INSERT POCKET FOLDER."  For the first two months of school, we will be reviewing Kindergarten Sight Words for our spelling tests.  Our spelling tests will usually have six words and two "challenge words".  I will also list our spelling words and testing date in our weekly newsletter and on our monthly calendar.
